ART WORKSHOPS

Sub-plotting

Sarah Eyre, Ra Page, Deyan Raykov

A Steering Group of 15 young people aged 13 – 17 will project manage Sub-plotting.

Sub-plotting is a multi-media visual arts project, game and exhibition which uses 'in your pocket' technology, your mobile phone.  It is a visual game of ‘Chinese Whispers’, every Sub-plotting player is an artist and the exhibition will feature at least 500 artists on its walls!  Want to be one of them?

To sign up simply text the words BITMAP BYT to 60300, choose a theme and join the story.  You will receive the latest photo from that story on your mobile phone and have just 2 hours to respond with a photo to move the story on. Your photo will then be sent to the next player in line, and so on

All photos are anonymous, what connects you and your photo neighbours is the story which you are creating.  Your photo will be printed and the growing stories will be exhibited across Mid Pennine Gallery and Burnley Youth Theatre.  The photo chains will also be live on the project website where you can leave messages for your 'photo neighbours' on the online forum.

Everyone is invited to an exciting event to see their photos and to meet their 'photo neighbours'.  Friday 17th October, 5-8pm, starting at Mid Pennine Gallery at 5.00pm and moving to Burnley Youth Theatre at 6.30pm. Everyone welcome, refreshments served. Free Entry

Exhibition opens at both venues on Saturday 11th October – Saturday 22nd November 2008.

Sign up to Sub-plotting from 15th September.  Visit www.midpenninearts.org for details. Each text costs 50p. Terms and Conditions apply, please see website for details.

Mid Pennine Arts are delighted to be working in Partnership with Burnley Youth Theatre and folly on this project.

A NEW VISUAL ART PROJECT FOR
YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 14-20 EXPLORING MENTAL HEALTH

Burnley Youth Theatre will be starting up a new project this term which will look at breaking down some of the stigmas attached to mental health issues – specifically domestic violence and self harming. The project will work in partnership with specialist mental health teams and hopefully run from the Chai Centre in Burnley once a week for 3 months. The project will explore visual art working with a freelance artist and it will aim to provide support and increase access for young people to specialist mental health services and to challenge stereotypes through education and exploration. To register your interest on this project, contact Kyra on 01282 427767

CREW NEEDED

There are loads of ways to get involved without going on stage. We need you to be part of the crew for this term's productions, “

What is there to do?

* You can get technical with lighting and sound
* Get messy with set painting
* Help with props and costume
* Help get the show organised as part of the stage management team

Some roles require a lot of commitment, other require less – let us know what's best for you!

ARROW
a community arts group for all young
people aged 13

This term, the Arrow sessions will go “outreach” into the community!!
Kyra and the Arrows will be visiting another young person led group based at the Faith Centre in Burnley on Thursday evenings. The aim of these outreach sessions will be to get to know a new group of young people and research a new Arrow project in partnership. We will be fundraising for this new project to start in January 09. Contact Kyra on 01282 427767

Room to
Breathe

Work on our outdoor space 'Room to Breathe' continues. In June the mosaics, which were created by Holly Grove School and BYT participants, were set into the ground. If you haven't seen them already go and have a look! I'm sure you'll agree that they have added a real splash of colour to an already exciting space.

More developments are planned, and 'Room to Breathe' will be officially 'launched' in 2009. For more information call BYT on 01282 427767.

Sketch

Sketch summer activities started on the 23rd July and have run weekly at the three community centres: Stoops; Burnley Wood and Stoneyholme and Daneshouse.
The groups of young people taking part in the project have been enjoying graffiti, costume designing, breakdancing, drumming, mc-ing, puppet making, mural designing, music video making and drama! To get involved in the end of project celebrations as a Sketch helper at the Community Festival on the 31st August, see Kyra! We need you!

The first part of the Eye2eye project with the boys has been completed and the art works went up on exhibition in the charity arch in the town centre, before returning to the Stoneyholme and Daneshouse community centre to “rest” until the girls part of the project begins. The two artists, Clare and Daniel, that are working on the project, will come back on board for this in October and then the art work completed by all the young people will be celebrated in a “preview show” at the community centre. The girls will use the same exciting techniques and materials as the boys but in their own way!! To get involved in this project, see Kyra
